The Language of Symbols in Sandplay Therapy - David Capitolo, LMFT, CST-T

  • St. Paul's Episcopal Church 415 El Camino Real Burlingame, CA, 94010 United States (map)

This course focuses on the use of figures as symbols when a client creates a sandplay scene and reveals unconscious material. A language will be introduced to describe the energies in the process. Beginning with a discussion of creating and holding “the free and protected space” as described by Kalff, participants will learn the language of symbols and archetypes through interactive hands-on experience, explanations and case presentation. The case presentation includes elements of play therapy with sandplay. Symbolic communication in the co-transference will be demonstrated using figures and case examples. The closing discussion offers guidance about how to select figures reflecting diversity of gender, culture, ethnicity, religion, history, fantasy and mythology to create an integrated collection.
